Apple and Google partnership on reducing spread of COVID-19 through Bluetooth contact tracing technology

Google & Apple have announced a joint effort to enable the use of Bluetooth tech to help governments & health agencies reduce the spread of COVID-19 with user privacy & security central to the design.

With close cooperation & collaboration with developers, governments & public health providers, Apple & Google two of the🌎’s tech giants plan to harness the power of tech to help countries around the🌎slow the spread of COVID-19 & accelerate the return normal life.

Leading Public Health Authorities (PHAs), Universities & NGOs around🌎have been doing important work to develop opt-in contact tracing tech. The tech giants will launch their detailed contact tracing solution to include APIs & operating system-level technology, via a 2 step approach: in May both will release APIs that enable interoperability between Android & iOS devices using apps from PHAs. These official apps will be available for users to download via their respective app stores; then they will work to enable the functionality of a broader Bluetooth-based contact tracing platform across underlying platforms.
